The local chapter of Project Linus has just donated its 20,000th blanket in Anne Arundel County. The milestone blanket was donated to the Anne Arundel Medical Center Pediatrics Unit where childlife specialists will give the blanket to a child receiving care at the hospital.

Since its local beginnings in 2002, Project Linus Volunteers have been handcrafting blankets for children who are seriously ill, traumatized or in need, working in partnership with AAMC and many other local agencies to provide children with the warmth, comfort and a sense of security that only a blanket can give.

Project Linus volunteers use their crochet, sewing, knitting and creative skills to create a wide variety of blankets that are delivered to area hospitals, shelters, agencies, schools and other nonprofit organizations that work directly with children in difficult situations. The volunteers are of all ages, from the Girl Scouts to homebound seniors. Many community organizations and businesses make blankets for the benefit the children, too.

The Anne Arundel County Chapter of Project Linus meets on the third Saturday of each month at the Severna Park Community Center, from 10:00am until noon. New volunteers are always welcome. There is a blanket style that meets every skill level.

Project Linus is a nationwide nonprofit organization founded in 1995 with more than 300 chapters throughout all 50 states. Persons wishing to learn more about Project Linus are encouraged to view the national website at www.projectlinus.org or the local chapter’s website at www.linusannapolis.org.
