According to a recent Marist College poll, “being a better person” is the most popular New Year’s resolution for 2018. This could run the gamut from smiling at strangers, to adopting a homeless pet, to being a philanthropist. The really good news is that studies have shown that helping others can actually increase your longevity!

We can help you achieve your New Year’s resolution - SPAN is in the business of helping others. And if we can help make you live longer in the process, that’s a nice bonus!

Sometimes it’s hard to believe that there is need in our section of Anne Arundel County, but we see it every day. Most often it’s due to temporary crises, such as a job layoff, car accident, illness, death in the family, or other such emergency. Many hardworking people simply do not have savings to draw from, or family members to borrow from, in these types of predicaments.

We currently have a very full food pantry, thanks to the generous donations of many folks during the holiday season. If you’d like to help, our greatest need is financial. We use your donations for court-ordered evictions, utility turn-offs and prescription co-pays. We pay directly to the providers, after verifying residency and necessity requirements. Remember, while you’re shopping local and dining local, to also give local. Wishing you a happy and healthy new year!
