We are excited to announce our newest members of the chamber: AM PM Marine, University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center, Northern Birth Roots and Fellner Legal Services.

The Eastern District’s National Night Out will be held on August 7 from 5:30pm to 8:00pm at the Earleigh Heights Volunteer Fire Company. More than 3,000 people are expected to come through the hall to enjoy demonstrations, free food, games and friendly interactions with our local police, fire and emergency responders’ departments. This is a wonderful way to bring the community together with those who protect us and help us in emergencies.

Don’t miss our rescheduled Shop Local Fun Festival, to be held on August 18 from noon to 4:00pm at Park Plaza. The event features more than 60 exhibitors, food, demonstrations, music, face painting, a photo booth, animals, bowling and fun for the whole family. It’s a great way to celebrate the last days of summer by joining us in the “park.”

We had 117 entries in this year’s Fourth of July Parade. We wish to send a huge thanks to all of the generous sponsors, amazing volunteers, WNAV and the Severna Park Voice, fantastic staff at both St. Martin's-in-the-Field and Our Shepherd Lutheran churches, Corporal Daughters and our local police, our parade entries, our judges, emcee Earl Schaffer, DJ Marcus, Franklin Toys and Pedal Pushers for their donations to the decorated bike contest winners, ServPro for storing the float, Andre Butler of Jaguar Land Rover Annapolis for pulling our float in one of their amazing cars, and all of you for making our parade a wonderful event!

The same week as the parade, we held our Star-Spangled Restaurant Week. Eighteen local restaurants participated from July 1-7, creating special menus, advertising on social media and spreading the word to the patrons. Restaurant Week is a great way to drive traffic during slow vacation periods, and customers get tasty deals! The week was such a big success — with one reporting a 20 percent increase in traffic — that we are holding a winter restaurant week. Stay tuned for more to come.

Our next Fly-by Friday will be held at the chamber on July 27, from noon to 1:00pm. Many thanks to the Gardiner and Appel Group for sponsoring all three cookouts. We offer standard grilled fare, along with sides and desserts from Effortless Bistro Personal Chef Service, and ice cream from Bruster’s Ice Cream. The cost is $15 for nonmembers.

Our Anne Arundel County Young Professionals Group (a multi-chamber initiative) will hold its inaugural cornhole event at the Bowie Baysox stadium on Friday, August 24, from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. Individual and team tickets and sponsorships are available. Visit our website for more information.

The next Successful Women in Business event will be held at Coterie Boutique on Wednesday, August 29, from 5:30pm to 7:00pm. We will enjoy shopping, wine and chocolates from Coco Couture. Enjoy door prizes and great networking. The cost is $15 for nonmembers.
