The Freedom Choir will liberate your voice and allow you to revel in the age-old tradition of singing with others. Choir members create a joyful musical community, singing songs from around the corner and around the world. Directed by award-winning vocalist and musician Elizabeth Melvin, the Freedom Choir explores music and harmonies from Africa, Europe and the Americas. As a community choir, members are not affiliated with any religion or creed.

No audition or experience is required. Songs are taught in the oral tradition, in call and response fashion. Written lyrics are occasionally provided, but choristers do not need to be able to read music. Members will be thrilled at how quickly they’ll be singing with others in four-part harmony.

The choir offers opportunities for performances throughout the year, but participation is optional. The choir has sung at numerous outdoor festivals, as well as civic and cultural events. An annual concert in the spring will raise money for local and national nonprofits.

The Freedom Choir rehearses on Thursday nights from 7:30pm to 9:00pm at the Holy Grounds Coffeehouse at the Severna Park Community Center. For more information or to register, visit www.thefreedomchoir.com.
